It gives me immense pleasure to lead the family of more than 300 students and staff in Department of Geography, Yobe State University which has doubled in strength every second year. The University has faced number of obstacles in last nine years facing harsh climate of Sub-Sahara, Socio-economic backwardness, political instability, insurgency and finance. In such challenging situations, the education and health sectors couldn’t develop as desired.
The Philosophy of Geography Programme is to equip the student with theoretical and practical knowledge of the interrelationship between physical and human environment. Hence the Programme is designed in such a way that the student will understand, utilize and effectively manage their environment.
Geography as an academic discipline in the Yobe State University was introduced in 2006. The first set of students were transferred to sisters universities in Nigeria due to suspension of degree programme to enable the University developed enough infrastructure and staff that will adequately provide dynamic environment for training and research. Between the years 2007 to 2008, the department participated in IJMB training embarked upon by the University. In 2009 degree progamme was reinstated and the department admitted students that graduated in 2012-2013 academic session.
